PropertyKey Company History
PropertyKey.com was founded in October, 1991 under the name REMAP
Corporation. The company was formed to devlop
GIS (Geographic Information System) solutions for the day-to-day
information needs of all phases of the real estate industry. At the time,
GIS applications in the real estate industry was limited to only very
high-end applications, although market research showed a huge interest in
this type of technology. In 1992, based upon the
results of this research, REMAP began a long-range software development
project. During this phase, the company assembled a team of programmers,
system analysts and GIS specialist to begin development. After trial
marketing of several initial products, IRIS, Integrated Realty
Information System, was deemed REMAP's primary product to
fill the market void.
Beginning in February 1995, the company began acquiring data for developing Brevard County, FL; Ramsey County, MN; and Pinellas County, FL. Parcel maps and property tax information were obtained from the counties and specially equipped vans were deployed to begin capturing images of the improved parcels in those counties. These three counties were the beginning of the full development of IRIS. As additional data was added within these grids, IRIS showed that it had matured into a full-featured information system, and initial marketing efforts were begun in all three grids. Las Vegas, NV was added as a new grid in September 1996, with an immediate local marketing effort. By the middle of 1997, the grids began to exhibit their financial potential, and REMAP determined that we had successfully shown the market viability of the IRIS System. The company then introduced a plan to license IRIS marketing rights to a local company in each grid. The company licensed the marketing rights in their Florida locations (Brevard and Tampa), and decided to retain the Twin Cities and Las Vegas locations indefinitely until an acceptable licensee was found. Throughout 1998, IMAPP, the company which acquired REMAP's Florida Grids, grew dramatically. They purchased additional rights from REMAP to develop and market IRIS throughout much of Florida, including the Orlando, Jacksonville, Daytona, and St. Augustine areas. By the end of 1998, IMAPP had grown from four counties to fourteen (and more to come), demonstrating increased market acceptance of IRIS. REMAP made great strides in additional Grid development in 1998, by entering in to data access contracts with Hennepin County, MN, San Diego County, CA, Los Angeles County, CA, King County, WA, and others. These contracts will open up vast new markets to REMAP, allowing for significant growth throughout 1999. The Hennepin County contract, for example, has provided the impetus in the process of licensing the Twin Cities Grid to a group of local investors. While pursuing new grids, the company continued to develop its IRIS software. New features included Internet accessibility, a Mailing Label Wizard, integrated E-Mail, and many refinements to the imaging, mapping and reporting functions of the system. In addition to advances in IRIS, PropertyKey is actively expanding it's position in the property information web services through a set of technologies termed the Virtual Assessor's Office. VAO encompasses a variety of techniques that we've developed to help our customers integrate our property information into their websites and software products. Originally conceived as a company primarily concerned with GIS applications, REMAP has been expanding its focus over the last year to a more generalized property information provider. To better reflect our position in the market, REMAP has recently changed it's name to PropertyKey.com. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
